WINE TOURISM
The Gers is an exceptional destination for wine lovers, where the vineyards of Saint-Mont, Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh stretch across landscapes of golden hills and authentic villages. Between powerful reds, elegant whites and prestigious Armagnac, each estate tells a story of terroir, tradition and winemaking passion.
From the guesthouse, in the heart of this wine region, set off to discover three emblematic estates less than 30 minutes away by car:
- Domaine de Plaimont in Saint-Mont: a pioneer of wine tourism in Gascony, offering a visit to modern cellars and a tasting of Saint-Mont and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh wines with a unique character.
- Château Bouscassé in Madiran: owned by the Montausier family, a benchmark for tannic, structured Madiran, with a cellar visit and a tasting in a refined setting.
- Domaine de Caussens in Vic-Bilh: a small family-run estate committed to organic farming, where you can discover Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh whites—both dry and off-dry—of great finesse.
Between tastings, meeting the winemakers and walks among the vines, this wine-tourism route offers a sensory and authentic experience, where each glass reveals the generous, refined character of these great Gers vineyards.
VILLAGES, MARKETS AND HISTORIC SITES
The Gers charms with its picturesque villages of pink brick houses and half-timbering, where narrow lanes and shaded squares invite you to stroll. Among them, Lectoure with its historic citadel, Eauze an ancient Gallo-Roman town, and La Romieu with its Collegiate Church listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, tell the story of a rich, well-preserved heritage.
The Gers markets, bustling each week in villages and towns, are a true temple of local produce: goat and sheep cheeses, confits and magrets, bottles of Armagnac, Floc de Gascogne, and local fruit and vegetables.
Between historic sites such as Sainte-Marie Cathedral in Auch (also listed by UNESCO), the bastide of Montréal-du-Gers, and Romanesque churches scattered across the countryside, the Gers offers a journey through time where history and the gentle pace of life meet in harmony.
And for nature lovers, the Armagnac forest offers magnificent walks on foot, by bike or on horseback, in the heart of a landscape of hills, vineyards and oak and pine forests. An idyllic setting to recharge and discover the Gers in a wilder, more authentic light.
